Please ensure you have at least v16.5 of the Target Tracker software installed on your computer.
To check this, go to File > About (bottom right-hand corner of File menu box)
To update to 16.5: Installing / Updating the Target Tracker software
At Target Tracker we feel assessment data should only be manually entered once and then imported electronically into other systems.
An export from Target Tracker meets all of the statutory reporting requirements but if your LA have requested that you make the data return for them from your MIS then simply complete Steps 1 and 3 and make your return from your MIS.
Choose what works for you – enter ELGs into TT and then export to your MIS or vice versa.

Entering ELGs into Target Tracker
Children must have an ELG judgement for all 17 Aspects made towards the end of their final year of the EYFS. This is in addition to the summer Step or PITA assessment that you will make to show progress made during the year.
We recommend that in Summer 2, Early Years practitioners make two assessments;
- A Step; Rec s/s+ or PITA; Below/At/Above assessment to show progress – you can also choose to copy this to the Primary Steps / PITA grid in Yr 1 from September,
- and an assessment against the ELGs for the statutory assessment.
ELGs can either be entered per Aspect or per child.
Entering Early Learning Goals one Aspect at a time:
Home > Pupil Selection > Select Class > EYFS 2020 > Steps > Single Subject > Select Subject
Ensure you select an Aspect not an Area of Learning.
On the far right of your screen you will see the ELG columns:
Simply double click to make the judgement.
To save time double click on the Expected heading to assess all children as Expected then change any individual judgements as necessary.
Entering Early Learning Goals one child at a time:
Home > Pupil Selection > Select Class > EYFS 2020 > Steps > All Subjects > Select Pupil
On the far right of your screen you will see the ELG columns: simply double click to make the judgement.
To save time double click on the Expected heading to assess all aspects as Expected then confirm and change the judgement for any individual aspects as necessary.

Note: It is highly recommended that you update the contextual information in Target Tracker from your MIS before exporting any data. This will avoid any inaccuracies in the Contextual Data included in the file.

(You will be warned if you have any missing postcodes or missing assessments. Click on ‘more details’ to see which children are missing data.)
If all data is present you will be prompted to choose where you would like to save the file, do not be tempted to rename it. The file name is its address allowing it to be uploaded to a secure transfer site.
Upload the file to your LA via S2S / COLLECT etc.
